The Sky, also referred to as Skybox, is an object that is a child or predecessor of every Roblox experience's Lighting service. It can be referred to as a specialized decal that can be used to customize the appearance of an experience's sky. It comprises the general celestial bodies provided by default, that is the Sun, Moon, and phenomenon such as clouds.
Overlook Bay has changed its skybox several times since its release, most notably during major festive events and for various seasons, that is, fall and winter. Since its release, only the appearance of the skybox present during the daytime has been altered with or changed, the night time skybox has remained the same for each theme since the start, except in the winter skybox added during the Holiday Event (2021).
Default Skybox[]
For times when no exclusive event or season was in place, a plain skybox was used in Overlook Bay. During Overlook Bay's first few months after release, Wonder Works Studio opted to use a skybox which had realistic clouds during the daytime and a dark gloomy sky during night time. Later through its development though, Wonder Works Studio opted for a more cartoony skybox, with hand-drawn clouds during the daytime. They, however, did not redesign the clouds used during night time. This skybox is generally also used for the summer season.
Seasonal Skyboxes[]
Seasonal skyboxes are special types of skyboxes that get implemented into Overlook Bay during a certain season.
Fall[]
Every year during fall, Overlook Bay decides to opt for a skybox with an orange tone to signify the theme. This theme is generally succeeded by the winter theme. In 2020, Overlook Bay's fall theme was simply a recolor of their previous skybox. Wonder Works Studio changed the atmosphere's tone to better reflect the orange theme. No particles were emitted from the sky during fall 2020. For fall of 2021, Wonder Works Studio opted for a pink-colored theme rather than orange, with the atmosphere being recolored again. The pink-colored theme was also accompanied by particles resembling dried-up leaves that were emitted from the sky.
Winter[]
The winter skybox has always followed a blue and white color scheme for its theme, and snow particles emit from the sky as a special decoration to further intensify the theme. In 2020, Overlook Bay's winter theme led to the peaks of the mountains surrounding the island being shrouded in snow, as well as the atmosphere exhibiting a bright blue color.
In the 2021 skybox, which was added during the Holiday Event (2021), aurora lights can be seen forming in the sky. No special daytime skybox was added for the 2021 winter season, and the game only used the one with cartoony clouds.
Event Skyboxes[]
Event skyboxes are special types of skyboxes that get implemented into Overlook Bay during a certain event.
Birthday Celebration Event[]
The atmosphere around the Birthday Celebration event's skybox during daytime.
The Birthday Celebration Event (2021)'s skybox comprised of cartoony clouds and party balloons. The sky also emitted confetti particles.
Halloween Event (2021)[]
The Halloween Event (2021)'s skybox comprised of crooked structures in the sky. Due to the Halloween Event taking place during the fall season, the sky also emitted orange maple leaf-shaped particles.
Valentine's Festival (2022)[]
The Valentine's Festival (2022)'s skybox comprised of an approach mainly dependent on the color. While the night-time skybox remained the same, the daytime skybox as well as the atmosphere's color was changed to a bright pink color, resembling the Valentine's spirit.
Easter Event (2022)[]
The particles emitting from the sky.
There was no exclusive change to the skybox's color or decal during the 2022 Easter Event, however, the sky emitted particles of confetti similar to those of the Birthday Celebration Event.
