Shovels used to be special tools in Overlook Bay that players could have obtained through events, or in exchange for 
Gems from the NPC, Doc McFly in the Lighthouse's basement. Better shovels did not grant the player any perks such as a Luck or XP multiplier, and were just present for cosmetic purposes. Players used to receive a free shovel upon joining the game for the first time.

How To Use[]
In order to use a shovel to dig up an artifact, players have to walk up to a pile of sand marked with an "X", equip their shovel, and interact with the pile of sand by either pressing E while on PC, or by tapping the interaction button whilst on mobile devices.
Players do not have to go through a minigame in order to do this, and only have to interact with the sand pile once.
